[PVE-User] Fibre Channel Network Storage support

Hi.

An opportunity knocked where I could get my hands on a Compellent SAN
with a Fibre Channel interface.

Proxmox VE's Wiki¹ does not indicate that Fibre Channel is supported via
the web interface, but I wonder if I can setup FC nonetheless via CLI,
and if so, once done, create/resize disk images on that SAN from
Proxmox, perform live migrations, take snapshots, etc, like I'm
currently doing with an iSCSI SAN attached to four Proxmox VE hosts.

While I'm at it, the FC PCI cards I'd be using would be QLogic (PCI IDs
1077:2432 and 1077:2532), via the qla2xxx kernel module. Anyone has
positive/negative reviews about them?

Thanks,

FC disks are viewed as local disks. Nothing special required.

QLogic cards are solid performers.

Thanks for the quick answer. I just want to make sure I correctly
understand what you mean by “local disks”: does that mean I'd also be
able to store OpenVZ containers on the FC SAN and perform live migration
across servers attached to it, or would I still restricted to KVM for
live migrations?

Sorry for insisting, but can anyone on the list using Fibre Channel
confirm successful KVM and/or OpenVZ live migrations? I wouldn't want to
be stuck with hardware I can't use at all with Proxmox.

Thanks,

Hi Patrice,

in my old job, they are using a FC-NetApp. The LUN's was showing as
normal local disk, with cLVM on top. With this, there was no problem
with live migrating.

Hope this helps you,

Michael
